P428B Pride 428 Japanese reissue

New Balance’s first basketball sneaker, released in 1983, the “Pride 428″ or P428 has just been reissued again as the P428B. There are three Japanese colorways now available at shops like Mita. The 428B is updated for the times with a mesh toe box, Abzorb and EVA core shock-absorption materials.

mlcarr_nbs.jpg I have read that the original P428 was worn by M.L. Carr of the Celtics. A former star NBA guard, Carr played for the Pistons then the Celtics, who he later coached. Nowadays Mr. Carr is a published author and runs a charity, WARM2Kids. And according to one report he serves on New Balance’s board of directors.
