Elements 576 Collection - Spring 2008

“New Balance is pleased to announce the introduction of the Elements 576 Collection, featuring a theme inspired by the basis of the universe according to Chinese Taoism: the elements. Three of the five elements in this age-old theory are realized in a collection of limited-edition shoes – Earth, Wood and Water.”

M576LET - Earth - available April 1, 2008

M576LEEW - Wood - available May 1, 2008

M576LEW - Water - available June 1, 2008

“The Elements 576 collection features design details that reflect each of the three elemental concepts. For instance, “Earth” features brown contrast stitching, a medial pattern reminiscent of layers of sediment and materials used to convey soil. “Wood” features a black and green design to signify tree bark and leaves, medial embroidery of trees and a unique “peel leather” to convey bark. “Water” embodies Zen-like serenity and tranquility, with a blue/white colorway, transparent rubber outsole and a recurring pattern of water bubbles.”

“Each shoe has a distinctive Chinese touch: the medial side of every Elements 576 shoe features the Chinese character that represents the shoe’s respective element.

The Elements 576 collection will be available in limited quantities and will retail for $100.00. The shoes will debut at retail spaced out over the spring: “Earth” is available 4/1/08, “Wood” will be available 5/1/08 and “Water” will be available 6/1/08″

Highsnobiety reports:

“Just recently we showed you the New Balance x Foot Patrol collaboration with the interchangeable N logo on the side. The idea was certainly well perceived and here at Bread & Butter Barcelona, New Balance unveiled for the first time the Ndividual Concept that shows that there is much more to it in the future.

For Spring/Summer 2008 New Balance will be dropping the Ndividual collection consisting of three sneakers that come in white, black and grey and stay very basic. The one thing that makes them stick out is the fact that they each come with several N logos that are interchangeable. They come with camouflage and neon colored N logos.”

NB 576 x Foot Patrol

Almost forgot to post this 576 that matches the made-in-UK Gimme 5 collab with the velcro N we saw previously. This time London’s Foot Patrol sneaker boutique is on the buttons. The preview shows a reddish-brown upper with brightly colored, removable, velcro Ns in blue, orange and yellow.

Each shoe also comes with a leather tag bearing the logo of the shop that collaborated with New Balance, in this case a Foot Patrol gas mask.

No word on release dates yet.

Atmos 576 Fujin

New Balance just celebrated their 100th year as a company however their next anniversary is just around the corner. The 576 is turning 20 in 2008 and Atmos arrives early to the party with their Fujin model, named after the Shinto god of wind.

Fujin “is portrayed as a terrifying dark demon wearing a leopard skin” (1) hence the black color and leopard pattern on the heel. The tongue and insole depict Fujin himself, complete with billowing wind bag.

A nice mix of the traditional and contemporary, this one is due for a Japanese release in September.

NB 576 x Gimme 5

Gimme 5 has collaborated with New Balance on a limited edition, UK-made 576. The shoe upper itself is all-black but it comes with three brightly-colored, interchangeable, velcro ‘N’ logos in black on yellow, pink on gray, and green on purple. These colors are also used in multicolor embroidery on the tongue. No release information for this yet so stay tuned!

2008 Asia-made 576 Samples

Here are some pics from Sole Obsession of Asia-made 576’s due to drop in early 2008. These feature reflective 3M material all over the toe area and “N”, plus suede on the middle and back panels. I’m feeling these, the purples remind me of the La MJC x Colette 1500s!

For anyone within reach of Malaysia, you can check these out in person at the Streething x Sole Obsession “Swap & Gawp” free event, this Saturday June 9 in Kuala Lumpur.

Edit: Added a pic taken with a flash to show how reflective these are. Thanks DN.
