Japanese streetwear label and retailer, KIKS TYO released today the first preview of their footwear collab with New Balance and G-Shock.
Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Casio’s rugged and high-tech G-Shock watch line, the “G-Flash” series includes two pairs of NB 574s as well as a modified 320. The shoes match a pair of KIKS TYO x G-Shock watches to be released worldwide in August 2007.
Founded in 2006 by DJ, designer and streetwear/sneaker culture personality hobby:tech (Shinichi Izaki), KIKS TYO has since gained recognition worldwide for its dedication to producing well crafted, high-quality apparel and accessories based on sneakers and sport culture.
The G-Flash 574 comes in a black/yellow and yellow/black colorway, the 320 in black/red. All three make use of paint-speckling on the leathers as well as custom lace locks. There appears to be some patent leather in there as well. I like these, the colors really pop and the designs are eye-catching without going overboard. Stay tuned for more info and pics.
New Balance did work with ALIFE on the collaboration project which was originally planned as a three shoe collection along with Sportie LA and Concepts at the Tannery in Boston. Due to reflective materials used in the ALIFE project and New Balance’s production methods, we were unable to produce the shoe as it was designed. So, the project will not be launched as planned. New Balance is eager to bring this collaboration to life, and the two brands are in discussions for an alternate project, but no date has been set for the release. Please Stay tuned!
Thanks to NB and ALIFE for the update. I must say I’m disappointed this particular shoe will not be produced with the other ones but I look forward to seeing what they come up with for the future!4 comments
We’ve obtained some more pics of the Sean D’Anconia 574 posted yesterday. Check out the incredible details on these. The Afro is actually made of flocked fabric! Click the pics to enlarge…

Update — more pics here.
Xymon again with more details on the New Balance AVENJ artist series 574 (previously).
The shoe pays homage to 70’s grindhouse cinema using a collage of the icons of the era: streets of Harlem to the skyscrapers of Hong Kong, from Yakuza to KungFu. Check out the detailing in the closeups below.
Trivia: Sean regularly slips references to Atlas Shrugged in his artwork…have a good close look if you get your hands on this 🙂

I guess bodegas must be as pervasive in Japanese cities as American ones because New Balance is releasing a
576 574 “Conbini” trio bearing the colors of convenience stores, 7-Eleven, ampm and Family Mart.
Some form of familiarity on this one. We’ve seen Bathing Ape do their highly successful [exclusive] set of Bape Sta on the same concept and now NB-Jpn replicates with the
576574 [Ed.–NBB]. Inspired by the conbini stores allover Japan [43,667 at last count in 2005], check out these 3 flavors all featuring suede and patent leather, with reflective detailing.

Xymon has dropped some more knowledge and pics on the upcoming New Balance 3-Store Collaborations produced by the Super Team 33 group in Skowhegan, Maine. All three 576’s are US Tier 0 releases.
Alife presents the high-concept M576ALIF with an all-over reflective silver upper and clear outsole. Perfect for legging it in the dark amongst the taxicabs of NYC.
Last up is the now-familiar black Sportie LA M576SPLA with rainbow polkadots, patent toe, carbon fiber heel and pinstripes. Based on our comments this one is a strong divider! (previously)

New Balance’s first basketball sneaker, released in 1983, the “Pride 428” or P428 has just been reissued again as the P428B. There are three Japanese colorways now available at shops like Mita. The 428B is updated for the times with a mesh toe box, Abzorb and EVA core shock-absorption materials.
I have read that the original P428 was worn by M.L. Carr of the Celtics. A former star NBA guard, Carr played for the Pistons then the Celtics, who he later coached. Nowadays Mr. Carr is a published author and runs a charity, WARM2Kids. And according to one report he serves on New Balance’s board of directors.
P428B BG – Black / Green ?
P428B BP – Black / Purple ?
P428B TB – Teal / Blue ?
